Spore Print Hi mrmack Welcome to WAB. I am not sure what has gone wrong with your post (it might just be my computer but I think not). A spore print serves two purposes first for the arty set it can leave a pretty pattern. A more helpful use is to find the colour of the spores. The colour of the gills is often a good guide as to what to expect but not always. They can be white through cream, pink, all shades of brown and finally black. This information can then be used to separate similar looking fungi. Most of the popular books tell you what colour is produced by which fungi. The next step is to start looking through a microscope to see the shape an size of individual spores and this again can help in the identification process. Mal |
