Our greengrocer sells 'Oyster Fungus' at 95p for 100grammes. Recently I came across quite a few with this grey hyphomycete (possibly) growing on the gills and cap. My initial take was that it was similar to the orange asco that grows on (e.g.) Lactarius deliciosus and is considered quite a delicacy.Anyhow I begged a couple of them off him and took it home.
Under the 'scope it looks like your typical hypho - just mycelium with no useful features. But I can't find it in the books and a search of the web produced no pictures and no definite description and in fact nothing to connect it to Pleurotus. It may be fairly common (and harmless!!) but I'd like to know what it is.
Any Ideas?
Cheers, Alan
