ID request - Nottinghamshire Fungi

Hello - looks like I'm the latest in a long list of similar requests. I'm in the process of adding captions to Fungi - but as I'm not much of a mycologist I'd appreciate any suggestions. I realise identification is not that easy in many cases (particularly as I photograph them in situ) and I think (not sure) that leaving comments on Flickr requires membership which is a pain. Maybe it's easier to leave messages here. Thanks.

Re: ID request for Flickr photostream - Nottinghamshire Fungi

Can't you cross reference them with images in our galleries?

Yes - I'm working my way through them, slowly. Some I've yet to find or am unsure of.

Re: ID request for Flickr photostream - Nottinghamshire Fungi

I am afraid there is no easy solution, browsing through the Gallery can be a bit hit and miss and time consuming. I would start with a good book, alternatively use the search facility on the Rogers Mushrooms site and then cross reference by doing an image search.

Re: ID request for Flickr photostream - Nottinghamshire Fungi

well i'm no expert but the first three are fly agaric - as a general hint it is good manners to put pics you want identified into our galleries (see links in the top right corner of this page for how) so that you are contributing to the site as well as benefiting from it

I don't know who's avatar is the most annoying.
Boddies' or Eeyores'

I tried to upload an animated but it didn't work.

Re: ID request for Flickr photostream - Nottinghamshire Fungi

hey up here we go -
00 046 - Blackening Waxcap
00 030 - 00 035 - Leccinums - various checks need to be made to confirm ID mainly colour change in flesh
00 025 + 00 026 - Lepista flaccida good be a good guess
00 020 Calvatia excipuliformis
00 018 Lepista nuda - but the cap is very shiny - a rainy day perhaps
0 042 Mucilago crustacea
00 064 Russula ochroleuca
00 067 maybe Thelophora terrestris (earth fan)
00 081 Boletus badius
impg0451 Laetiporous sulphureus (chicken of the Woods)
0 027 Paxillus involutus
0 001 Jews Ear Fungus

Thats about it and hopefully should point you in the right direction. The others - yeah I could have a guess but its difficult with no back-up info - anyway keep up the good shots?

Re: ID request for Flickr photostream - Nottinghamshire Fungi

Thanks for the various pointers and info. I'll submit pics to the Gallery when I've sorted through them, rather than just bunging everything on. I wouldn't think there's a need for many more shots of Fly Agaric, for instance.

Think your right, annoying thing is I can't find any this year in my area so it makes me envious seeing all those pictures.

This is one of the many things that intrigue me about fungi, GerryNick - they're unpredictable. I've just spotted shaggy ink caps bursting through the pavement around the corner from here, for example.

There are plenty over here Gerry, over the border in Berkshire. One of the things I've noticed this year is that the Fly Agaric are nice specimens rather than the rather moth-eaten ones that I have seen before.

Yes, fungus is really unpredictable. I have lots of shaggy inkcaps - dozens of them, and they were not here last year. I try to go out every day (if I can find the odd half hour) because there is usually something new that has appeared.

So are you infact annoyed at our avatars, or the fact that you don't have one that is animated?

We have them in Sutton Park the size of dinner plates. I went back this week, literally ten minutes after seeing some at the side of the road (Streetly entrance) and some charming so and so had obviously given them a kicking. There is sure to be more off road though. May find out on Sunday morning

Dancing mushrooms would have been appropriate for this thread methinks.

If I see dancing mushrooms on here I'll think someone's been nibbling at the Fly Agaric....

I made my partner - who was driving - turn the car round and grabbed the camera from home when I saw the pavement pushing ink caps. I knew somebody would trash them within the hour.

But why?!

Re: ID request for Flickr photostream - Nottinghamshire Fungi

Hi

Some possible ID's (can't be certain, unless I say so - I leave out zeros etc. - I didn't look at all the photos and did not include those I saw you already know):

1 - Auricularia auricula-judae
27 - Paxillus involutus or (if found with alders) Paxillus rubicundulus
30 - Lycoperdon perlatum
43 - Langermania (Calvatia) gigantea
44 etc. - Hygrocybe conica
47 - Lepista nuda
63 - Hygrocybe virginea
64 - Trametes versicolor
2, 65, 66 - Calvatia excipuliformis
68 - Hygrocybe miniata
69 - Collybia maculata
71 - Laccaria amethystea
76 - Amanita muscaria (if what I see on the stipe is a ring)
77-79 - Laccaria laccata
452 - Meripilus giganteus (quite probable)
