| | | Entoloma identification Found this very striking Entoloma in unimproved calcareous grassland near Malham Tarn. Cap c35mm diameter, spores 5-6 angled almost isodiametric 6.7-8.1µ x 6.9-7.6µ. Pileipellis had a layer of very thin hyphae overlying a layer of wider hyphae; hyphae had clamps. No cheilocystidia or pleurocytidia were seen.
I tentatively identified it as Entoloma bloxamii - does this like a reasonable attempt?
Spores:
Pileipellis (sorry about poor photo)
Any help, ideas or gentle nudges much appreciated as always.

| | | Re: Entoloma identification Just been checking the distribution of this one on the Checklist of the British & Irish Basidiomycota and it has this an Endangered species and yet also apparently widespread. I assume the Red Data List designation reflects the difficulties of identification within this genus and a lack of records rather than it really being Endangered. Quote: Checklist of the British & Irish Basidiomycota
.......
Notes: Rarely reported, but apparently widespread.
.......
Conservation Status: Endangered (Red Data List, ed. 1); Annex (Red Data List, ed. 2) |
