| | | Unknown bracket I found this bracket a few weeks back
Growing on a fallen conifer.
It was wet when I went back yesterday but it had taken on this look
The pore surface hadn't changed a lot but there was a distinct yellow border around the pore surface edge.
Ganoderma should grow on b/l trees? is there anything else anyone can point me at. I took a small sample but was unable to get any spores so will need to go back again

| | | Re: Unknown bracket Mal, this has me thinking back to specimens of Ischnoderma benzoinum that JP and I have come across in a couple of locations last year (especially on one very wet occasion).

| | | Re: Unknown bracket Ganoderma adspersum is described as sometimes found on coniferous trees,
and also being light brown when young , older fruitbodies becoming dark brown to black,
and the margin cream to yellowish coloured,
worth a look ?

| | | Re: Unknown bracket I would consider Ganoderma pfeifferi, this has a yellow waxy coating which may explain the yellow edge.
It's very rare on conifers.

| | | Re: Unknown bracket Hello,
Ganoderma would also be my chioce, preferably G. adspersum.
I know G. pfeifferi fairly well and it has always been much brighter red then those.
best regards,
Andreas

| | | Re: Unknown bracket I wouldnt have my money riding on that be g australe/adspersum nor pfeifferi, top view is more like Applanatum but looks too thick in profile and wrong colour with the red tones?
Though I am no expert in these matters, might be worth mentioning!

| | | Re: Unknown bracket So what was it that melted then ?
I guess there must be a certain amount of 'resin' on the top surface of G.australe as well, which I've never seen mentioned before.
Nice find all the same.
