| | | Help with I.D. please. Found in a local woodland in Lincoln,under a mixed canopy,growing in moss.
Around 6 inches tall, not clump formed.Golden coloured stem to a white hairy base.
My stab would be Golden Spindles-Clavulinopsis fusiformis.
Can anyone confirm....or not..lol
Thankyou.

| | | Re: Help with I.D. please. Hello,
Macrotyphula is a perfect suggestion, but if it is fistulosa, the things should be quite tall. 20 cm or so at least. If they are much tinier, compare to Macrotyphula filiformis.
best regards,
Andreas

| | | Re: Help with I.D. please. Not as small as filiformis but difficult to judge the size here & was trying hard to get the image in a bit of a breeze...they were waving around somewhat !
I would say at least 6 inches in height,if not a little more. |

| | | Re: Help with I.D. please. Janet,
In my experience, M.fistulosa seems to prefer half buried sticks as does the more scarce variety, var.contorta, whilst it's slimmer and shorter sister, M.juncea/filiformis, tends to grow in damp leaf litter and in greater numbers covering many square metres.
But do remember both can grow on woody debris or leaf litter.

There weren't many around, maybe a dozen or so stems, but not growing in any real kind of clump formation, more like individual specimens.
I didn't remove the moss TBH as the stems were very fragile & I didn't want to disturb anything I shouldn't...but there is always debris/leaf litter under the moss so I suppose I should pay a return visit & have a much closer look....any excuse to get the camera out & get Down & dirty ! |
