| | | Orange Milkcap or is it? I Ided this as orange Milkcap, Lactarius auraantiacus from Roger phillips but it doesn't look like the picture in the A-Z. Found in mixed woodland on 31st October. |

this is Lactarius fulvissimus. It is well recognisable by the scattered darker spots or wart-like elements on the outer area of the cap. They are not always present, but very often and then significant.
L. fulvissimus has formerly sometimes been divided into L. ichoratus and L. subsericatus. May be the British have still another name for it, may be L. brittanicus is the same (but I don't know that exactly).
L. aurantiacus = L. mitissimus is clearer orange throughout.

| | | Re: Orange Milkcap or is it? The British Checklist has Lactarius ichoratus Lactarius britannicus and Lactarius subsericatus as pseudonyms for Lactarius fulvissimus.
