Whilst at Clumber Park recently Les and I found this 'imperfect' stage on a cut stump-end of dead Beech
any comments or suggestions appreciated

I have no idea what this is. The Ptychogaster imperfect states are always on coniferous wood. I have never heared of one on decidous wood. Yor find looks as if there are two species involved: One corticioid growing on the surface of the wood, the other this imperfect one growing out of the holes of the wood.
