That's about right. I was returning from a mushroom foray about three weeks ago and we drove past an apple tree (russets) very close to the junction of the A24 and the A272 - lots of cars pass by here and have to wait at the traffic lights next to the tree. The tree was absolutely heaving with apples - we took ten carrier bags full and there was five times as much still left on the tree. However, during the entire time we were collecting them there were people in the cars shouting at us, laughing at us and
asking us what we were picking. Err...whaddyathink? Figs?
Thousands of people must have driven past there and we were the only ones who got out and collected the apples. They are currently being turned into cider. For most people in the UK, food is something which comes from a supermarket.
