Found these today, am hoping they are Ceps, but they might be Bay Boletes instead.    |

Was half expecting this, didn't taste very nice, but saying that the stems were pretty tasty, caps a bit slimy.

Is Xerocomus badius the same as Boletus badius?? Has the name changed or are they 2 different types? I've looked in the Fungi A-Z but didn't see Xerocomus badius. |

Boletus badius (formerly known as Xerocomus badius), and commonly known as the Bay Bolete is an edible, pored mushroom from Europe and North America. Often considered a poor relation of the Cep (Boletus edulis), it is nevertheless highly regarded by some authors such as Antonio Carluccio. |

I find Bay Bolete is better dried as fresh they are a bit slimey although I haven't collected any for some time. I did have an absolute disaster one year though when I collected quite a few and tried to just freeze them in bags. What a mess and the smell was pretty disgusting.  |
