| | | A deadly gift Not the title of a crime thriller (well i guess it may have been) but a great gift from a fellow enthusiast who knows i'm keen to find one. Amanita phalloides " The Death Cap" Tis a fine gift for all hallows eve.
Found within a few miles of my house under fagus, so i'm going to be heading that way over the next few weeks to see if i can find one.
Surprisingly pleasant smell for something that could kill you. I wonder what happened to the slug that munched the cap?

| | | Re: A deadly gift Nice, I'm still yet to see one. As far as I'm aware, slugs have a metabolism capable of breaking down the deadly amanitins. Lucky them as the mushroom is reputedly quite an appetizer! |

| | | Re: A deadly gift Plenty down this way. I still get quite a kick out of finding one though. i think I've managed to see every deadly species this year. It's been a good year for poisonous mushrooms. |

| | | Re: A deadly gift A small specimen but a first in the field for me so i'm chuffed to bits, under beech as predicted. The photo has washed out during uploading but overall it was pale with just a green/bronze tinge to the outer edge of the cap. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
