| | | Please HELP!!! Hi All,
hope you can help me
Ive been living in England for the past 10 years..
Im Italian and as you know we love mushroom picking especially at this time of year..i tried every year to go back and enjoy this experience with my family...but this time i cant go back..
Im desperate to know if i could go mushroom picking especially(porcini-penny bums) anywhere in east sussex ..i know that there are many places where is against the law so i want to make sure that i go in the right place.
Thank you all in advance |

I don't think that many people who foray for edibles, would be willing to pass on specific locations - for obvious reasons.
But, I suspect that you are a little too late in the British season to find many now. Most of the boletes seem to have "been and gone again" - I haven't seen any Penny Buns for a few weeks now.
Regards,
Mike. |

I know a good mushroom picker would never disclose the spot
you cant blame a girl for trying
anyway i was only asking about the area ..around east sussex
are the woods here good ? or do i have to travel to other areas in england?
thank you again |

If I knew of specific localities in your area that had any, I'd let you know - like most Brits, I'm not bothered about collecting wild mushrooms!

Thank you all in advance | Penny Bums in Sussex?
There has been plenty of Penny Buns in Sussex but I suspect you've left it a little late. The last few are already too large and maggot-ridden to eat. Nobody is going to tell you an exact spot, but they aren't hard find around here. And provided you have legal access to the land then you can pick the mushrooms unless there are signs specifically telling you otherwise. |

| | | Re: Please HELP!!! Hi there
when I first started with fungi my ideal was for food, but since I have learned that many of the most "photogenic" are either not edible/worthwhile. I keep looking for the tasty plate, but in the meanwhile, I am trying to study and learn what and when the others appear. There can also be other foragable foods, leaves, berries etc that can also be good. Look at some of the other forums and galleries on this site for the wonders of nature. Oh and I have a friend bringing me some wild rabbit tomorrow that I am swapping for some dried cep and homemade (home grown tomato) tomato sauce! |

| | | Re: Please HELP!!! and my brother has recently clarified a batch of bramble (blackberry) wine from foraged fruits. Initial sampling and density testing is indicating a VERY potent result . Should be nice for Chrimbo! |

| | | Re: Please HELP!!! Earlier in this thread it was stated that if one has legal access to 'land' you can pick mushrooms (wild fungi) unless there are signs saying otherwise.
In the case of a nature reserve, one knows instinctively that you do not pick the wild flowers as they are there and protected for visitors to enjoy - they are part of the wildlife that people come to see.
Equally, fungi are exactly the same in this respect, people enjoy seeing these mysterious, sometimes colourful organisms and should be left for the creatures of the wood to disperse the spores, not for us to remove and deprive others of this spectacle.
