| | | Little Brown fellas ID Now I think they could be;
bell shaped mottlegills
drab bonnets
but I'm not sure. They have turned up this year in some 3 year old bark chip on one of our flowerbeds and there are literally hundreds of them up to about 4 cms in height. Also as they open they have a nipple on top.
The gills are very light so I discounted a liberty cap

| | | Re: Little Brown fellas ID The epitome of an LBJ (little brown jobbie) There are a few like this growing on wood debris and the only real way is with a microscope but if you can pick one and try and peel the cap with a pair of your wife's (or your )eyebrow tweezers. If you are able to peel it I think it could be Mycena amicta. It has the hairy stipe and the right colours. Unfortunately it is missing the blue edge to the cap that it sometimes has (see the picture in the A-Z) but if your eyes are good you may see a blue sheen right at the base of the stipe.

| | | Re: Little Brown fellas ID Now it looks less like M amicta . You could send me a few dried if you want and I will try and get a more definitive id.
