Found this a while ago, just found the photo. is this beech tarcrust, Biscogniauxia nummularia??? thanks in advance!

hi

no it isn't - that fungus forms irregular, but often roughly circular flat crusts (hence the name from the Latin nummus meaning a coin); whereas what you have here is, I think, old and effete (hence blackish to black) fruit-bodies of Hypoxylon fragiforme (i.e. resembling a strawberry) - Latin lesson over
