| | two for help Hi all,
on a birdwalk , found scarlet caterpillar and jelly babies, which was nice, but grateful for input to these two - tiny (pinhead) twiggy fungus ( on bramble or similar under bushes) and a small mycena which looks to be galopus v. candida but was trooping on rotting log (admittedly with moss and debris,so not too crucial) so archangeliana springs to mind too.......................
Cheers

Ken | hi Ken
I don't think this is Crocicreas; probably Hymenoscyphus - did you collect it?
cheers
Chris

M galopus var candida has a pure white stipe so I think your second suggestion of M arcangeliana is the right choice.

Mal | This pic doesnt reflect the colour properly Mal I think - I'll go back at the weekend and try again to make sure, thats the crucial point, and the substrate too, but I have another shot thats more white stipe (thats the brother and sister group isnt it, the white stipes?)
Did collect Chris, but so so tiny, lost it.
Which hymenoscyphus did you have in mind?
Cheers both, thanks for input.
Ken

| | | Re: two for help Whatever they are Ken, they look very like these: -
Also found today (on a decaying bramble stem I think). But no matter what I did with the camera controls, they resolutely refused to let me get a good photo. (Wasn't going to post these for ID, but your specimens look good for the same thing).
Regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: two for help Wow Mike, thats very close to mine - same substrate too.
I tried exploring bioimages and most hymenoscyphus are on broadleaved rotting stuff, partic beech it seems, plus a lot more on quite specific rotting herbs/plants - but there are a lot of them and quite a few are on non-specific herby dead vegetation, including bramble.
However, those pics I found on bramble are not this colour, they are much more creamy.
H. fagineus is close, but that is of course on beech/mast!
Need a key, more work on this!
Chris, why are you sure (or think strongly more like), its hymenoscyphus?
Thanks everyone
Ken

Thanks everyone
Ken | because I've been looking at these things for three decades now, and these look like Hymenoscyphus - like Mycena species look like Mycenas - and Hygrocybe species look like Hyg. . . . . that doesn't help does it?
basically substrate can limit what Hymenoscyphus species are possible, but mostly not usefully
there are several white Hymenoscyphus species these could be - they are distinguished chiefly on spore size and you will never be able to see that no matter how good a field or studio shot is . . .
I can only offer to have a look for people (that reminds me - I've one to look at for Rob ) . . . of course if those people then lose their specimens
cheers
Chris
