| | | Re: microfungi ..... ha ha Just briefly reconnected my computer (got builders in and they are causing dust and mayhem) and found lots of new posts on this . Interesting that they have all been found on Peziza.
If I can get a chance before having to disconnect again for the builders I'll see whether I did determine what Peziza it was.
Unfortunately the pics on the link you gave didn't appear when I tried, and I tried both Internet explorer and AOL, but will keep trying. It looks as if it should be a good site.
Thanks

| | | Re: microfungi ..... ha ha This was the thread with pictures of it on. I'd not done the microscopy then. Knobbly disco and some pretty pics
I did do the microscopy but couldn't find a mature ascospore, so didn't reach a firm conclusion. I think P micropus now comes under P varia. Which may be what this one is. I've kept the specimen, I think .... I was just about to move house, but vaguely remember drying it and packing at the last minute.
Oh and I finally managed to find a way to see that pic on the weblink, thanks Nick. As you say, very similar 'fungi' to mine Obviously whatever it is is partial to a bit of Peziza , it does make a plausible 'tongue'. I looked at a few more pics I took at the time of mine, and they seem to be protusions from a membrane type structure. I'll see if I can find a moment to put a few more on here.

| | | Re: microfungi ..... ha ha Hi Melanie,
may I borrow your pictures to show them in a German microscopy-forum? There are a lot of guys around that have seen things beyond our imagination ...
Maybe one or two of them can solve the riddle.
Cheers,

| | | Re: microfungi ..... ha ha I clicked on that link Melanie and with 2 experienced mycologists both saying P.micropus, I'm sure they are probably right.
It's the commonest Peziza on rotten wood, but it's the fact you mentioned the wood was Rowan or maybe Birch that slightly raises eyebrows - if you had said Elm or Beech there would be no problem.
