| | | Fly Agaric - Midlands/Warwickshire Does anyone know where I can see Fly Agaric growing in Warwickshire or the West Midlands?
Is it rife in any particular place?
No particular reason other than I think it looks amazing and have always wanted to see some. |

Is it rife in any particular place? | It is rife pretty much anywhere there is acid heathland and birch trees. |

| | | Re: Fly Agaric - Midlands/Warwickshire Look anywhere under Birch, but especially in damp areas that have not dried out too much this dry September. Isolated trees in short grassland can be as good or better than in woods. The specimens in my recent Gallery photo were under a single birch tree ajoining a wet area, although it is not often you get so many fruit bodies so close together.

| | | Re: Fly Agaric - Midlands/Warwickshire Fly agaric is still around here (Wirral) so I'd expect it to be findable where you are. It comes up every year in a neighbour's garden and is otherwise not difficult to find; just look for birches |

| | | Re: Fly Agaric - Midlands/Warwickshire If you had asked me 2 weeks ago I would have said..Everywhere! Not seen any amanita muscaria for a while. Mind you, haven't seen much else either apart from of course, the ubiquitous Armillaria sp which are a lovely fungi to find and very photogenic so I'm not complaining, there is rain forecast for tonight so...

| | | Re: Fly Agaric - Midlands/Warwickshire Sorry suky,
A bit like stickman, but North Kent. I found three troops of up to six fruit bodies on clay soil under birch on Sunday. The ones i know to grow on chalk are yet to really get going.

| | | Re: Fly Agaric - Midlands/Warwickshire Thanks for all your replies, I'll do some hunting near some silver birch trees. I understand that they are predominant near to pine and spruce trees as well. I've thought of a few places to try, I'll let you know. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
