| | | Knobbly disco and some pretty pics First, the knobbly disco, and its white friends on fallen Rowan or possibly Birch. Ids welcome
And then some pretty pics of fungi growing on the same fallen tree . There was also lots of Candle Snuff Fungus too, and some other stuff on there too that I chose to ignore. It was a rather colourful bit of wood. Well it made a change from all the lbjs that are suddenly deciding to show in the grassland that I had been looking at today. Most of the Waxcaps are still keeping their heads down, but I've got a pile of Psathyrella, Galerina, Conocybe to work through .

| | | Re: Knobbly disco and some pretty pics Hi Melanie,
I think the third one is lycogale terrestre - I had one a few weeks back, they change a bit but start off rosy like these.................bit puffbally (new word).
Some nice stuff there!
(maybe a peziza for the first - have you any non-flash pics of the little white ones showing some more detail?)
Choose to ignore? oh no!
Cheers
Ken

| | | Re: Knobbly disco and some pretty pics The small white blobs are a myxomycete sp. and the discomycete is probably going to be either Tarzetta cupularis or T.catinus BUT I see your specimen is shown on wood so I may be completely wrong.
Ah, I see the Lycogala photo has appeared - I wondered what Ken was talking about.
So, that makes your last shot just plain Turkey Tail.

| | | Re: Knobbly disco and some pretty pics Yes it is on wood. I'm sure Chris will have a good idea for the disco.
The white myxomycetes are smaller than pinhead, absolutely smooth.
I had Lycogala epidendrum on that very same spot last year but in the grey puffball stage so I had assumed this was the earlier stage. And I can't resist photographing those Trametes when they are in pristine condition .
Melanie
I'm not sure if I'll get round to the microscopy. I've 3 tubs full of stuff still to id, and really should be packing for the house move .... I've given myself this evening to play with the microscope and it is 10.42 already ....
Thanks for the Peziza name btw.
