Agaricus ID Please

Just can't get to grips with these, anyone help with this one?

Found growing amongst conifers.
Cap dia.7.5cm
Stem ht.7cm dia.1.4cm
Tried bruising, gills darkened and stem went a dark brown.

Hi Gerry,as soon as i saw this ,my first instinct was field mushroom -Agaricus campestris past its sell by date.

You could be right, the tests suggest A.campestris i.e. no smell etc.

I thought the cap looked a bit too brown and scaly for A.campestris, was thinking more along the lines of A.langei or A.sylvaticus, especially as it was found amongst conifers.
I just can't get to grips with these Agaricus. the ones I find never seem to conform to the descriptions in the books. If it should smell of aniseed it doesn't, if it should bruise yellow it doesn't.
