Plums & Custard, Russula Sanguilea or ?

Hello

This is growing on a log in oak, ash and beech wood, North Hampshire. There's a larger specimen, at least 4" dia., nearby. Is it Plums & Custard ? It does not look quite right to me, but I can't see what else it could be.

Russula species are mycorrhizal, not wood-eaters . . .this could be Tricholomopsis rutilans (p and c) though I would expect that on conifer wood - any possibility of that?

Yes, the logs could well be from conifers, as they were stuck in the ground on the boundary as fence posts when I moved in, so maybe not from the woods around, and the bark looks right. That must be it. There seems quite a bit of variation in the colouration of these checking some other images.
