| | | Re: ID Please..... it seems to be - even on gardeners question time today - Pippa (I think) rightly ID'd a specimen thought to be it as giant polypore, bless her for correct facts and knowing her stuff, even from her description it was clear what it was!

Paul. | A good place to start would be to find a local fungus group and join them. There will be an expert to lead the forays and help with identification.
Wait until you have spoken to a few experienced foragers before you go out and buy your fungus guides, the quality is highly variable! |

| | | Re: ID Please..... Well, Mal's right, experience helps in everything, but dont give up - use WAB and get a couple of good ref books and use online facilities - mind you its frustrating when you need a microscope..................
Go on fungi forays, join a nat hist society or get your teeth into a local group/experts?
BTW, welcome to WAB!
Cheers
Ken

| | | Re: ID Please..... Start by contacting your local fungus group. They will welcome you with open arms if you are serious. If you are struggling, contact the British Mycological Society, who should be able to give you a steer.
It doesn't take twenty or thirty years to get started - only about 10! |

| | | Re: ID Please..... It took me a two hour "Toadstool Walk" whilst on holiday to 'get started'. I certainly won't 'get finished' with my mycological studies in this lifetime |
