| | | Mycena Just going through records form earlier this year. This Mycena from early March has me stumped. In needle litter (mainly) and moss under Picea in quite dense coniferous plantation. Exuded a small amount of clear liquid from stem. Smell slightly nitrous. cheilocystidia spores
Spores were (7.3) 7.8-9.2 (9.8) x (4.2) 4.5-5.7 (6.3) Qav 1.7.
Cheilocystidia 10-16.5um dia by 22-57um long. Plenty of clamps. Basidia 4 sp. I didn't notice any markedly irregularly knobbed hyphae in the pileipellis.
The closest I can get is M abramsii, but not entirely convinced on that, or M aetites, but the habitat isn't grassland. The cap does have a white dusting, but using that as a character in the key doesn't give anything close.
Any ideas?
cheers
Melanie
Oh, and gills emarginate with decurrent tooth.

Reason: gill info added

Why not M abramsii
Early in the year, watery liquid from the stipe, stipe concolorous with cap or paler towards the top, gills with decurrent tooth spores right size and cheilocystidia smooth swollen some mucronate.
The only thing missing is a label.

| | | Re: Mycena Thanks Mal. Using the Norway Mycena website (which is what I used initially) took me to this name. But as I'm going through my records double checking stuff, checking with FOS set up doubts ... but since this post I went back and checked Norway Mycenas again and I was reasonably satisfied with it ....
But I also know you are pretty good on Mycena so it was worth checking on here . They are a group I've not got to grips with and they are a large group so I'm a bit hesitant. And I don't find the keys very good, so feel I can miss things very easily.
cheers

After you have taken out any with a colourful cap or gill edges a different colour and those that bleed you end up with having to use a microscope as the rest are so similar and so variable but with your microscope skill they should be a doddle
