Purely on looks alone the first idea in my mind is Boletus subtomentosus

Ah thanks, that was also my assumption. I read it one of the most common Boletes, although I've never seen it before today. Another one to tick off the list.

Better to tick it off a list than to add it on to a list as this could never be a definite identification by picture alone, even though I would agree it looks like it is B.subtomentosus.

It really depends what the list is for - if it is for your own personal records, that's OK, but if maybe in a few years time you feel you would like to send your records off to the County Recorder or even the County Recorder requests them to add to the database, problems arise with consistency of quality, but know one will ever know.
