But to me, at that size, (compared with the adjacent mosses), No.2 looks suspiciously like Orange Moss Cap - Rickenella fibula.
Was No.1 in the area adjacent to the Hollinshead ruins? - I 've got a photo which looks exactly the same.
Regards,
Mike.

Mike - Your right, it was in the area adjacent to the ruins It was on the path which you come to if you hop over the wall on Tockholes road where the sign post is for Hollinshead, it was on my right as i was on my way to the ruins. |

I thought I recognised the shape.

Mike.

I assumed the moss was Polytrichum commune and that a typical leaf length would be 6-8 mm. The cap looks broader than the moss, which could make it upwards of 1.5 cm in diameter, which would be on the large size for Rickenella fibula, to say the least.
But estimating size in this way is fraught with problems, so you could well be right with your suggestion. |

Height can depend to a certain extent on the substrate and what's round about. If the cap is only about 1 cm or so in diameter, then it could well be Rickenella fibula. At 2 cm it would be outside the likely range for this species.
