| | | Possible Macrotyphula & One More For ID Help Please Found these today: -
No.1 - Seems to fit the macro chracteristics & habitat for Macrotyphula, but the only two I know of are M.fistulosa, and M.fistulosa var. contorta.
Growing on a fallen Birch branch. Individual clubs up to 7cm in length.
Not visible in the photos, but some of the stems had a very fine "granular" appearance" to about half way up.
No.2 - Not getting anywhere with these.
Growing in deciduous woodland leaf litter (mainly Birch / Beech).
Cap sizes about 6cm across, Stipe heights about 8cm.
Any confirmation/other & help with ID much appreciated.
Regards,
Mike. |

When I posted, I only had the images in my books to go from, and the var. contorta images are very contorted indeed.
However, browsing the net, there are several images of M.fistulosa var. contorta on the Bioimages site that are identical to my find, so I'm now confident that's right.

| | | Re: Possible Macrotyphula & One More For ID Help Please Some folk reckon that there isn't really a Macrotyphula contorta. I once had a portion of both alleged forms and couldn't tell the difference microscopically. But that's just me. DNA analysis anyone?
But they are fun to find.

Neil. | Think I might have cracked it
They look (macroscopically & habitat wise) to be spot on for Wood Pinkgill - Entoloma rhodopolium.
