| | | A few from this morning? Hello. A bit more mushroomy out there today, keep it up rain!
got a bit wet but found a few more species to tick off, maybe? amanita muscaria? Clitopilus Prunulus???
No idea, Some kind of oyster mushroom? Found on a fallen birch trunk.
Thanks for looking. |

I would agree with all three. The last one does not show the ridges on the stem that would be right for Plurotus cornucopiae. If the top was grey then P. ostreatus if cream and depending on the size it could be P. Pulmonarius.

| | | Re: A few from this morning? Thanks! I really feel I'm getting a hang of identifying now, it's a gentle curve and a rewarding one. I read that Clitopilus prunulus (The Miller) is very often found growing in the same locations as Ceps, being a short walk from my house hopefully will find some of those soon.
Regarding the Oyster mushroom I'm sure it is indeed P.Pulmonarius, Those are good to eat also! |

| | | Re: A few from this morning? Hello Mushruman,
As it looks like you are a 'foodie', (consumer) pay special attention to those you believe are Cltopilus prunulus as the pink gills are not always obviously pink, and I always found them difficult to separate from the white poisonous Clitocybe species in my early novice days.
Even with the Pleurotus species I am a little wary with ID's, as a good few years ago I sent off a pure white one which was growing alone on Willow and Kew got back to me saying that it was just P.ostreatus and that this species can be quite variable.
Now in the recent edition of 'The Forayer' there is an article about Pleurotus species, but makes no mention of the traditional 'Oyster' mushroom - P.ostreatus, as sometimes being entirely white.
Confusing, isn't it.
Neil.

The idents are ment for photographic identification only and should NOT be used as a go ahead to eat especially with something like the Miller/Clitocybe dealbata. Anything you need to get someone else to help with identification you certainly should not be eating.

| | | Re: A few from this morning? Thanks for the info chaps, I understand and agree it would be foolhardy to eat such things without proper expert identification. I was speaking broadly when I said they where good to eat, not that I intended to eat them.
Sorry for any confusion. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
