Common Earthball
Angel's Bonnet
Dead Man's Fingers
And although my favourite fungus from the whole weekend was undoubtedly the porcelain, this one is my favourite photo...
Candlesnuff Fungus.

Here's my very similar image

| | | Re: WAB at Clumber 2009 - The Final Reckoning! John usually uses a smaller aperture than me so he gets more detail throught the image. I used f11 to throw the background completely out of focus but this meant that the right-hand one of the four is also out of focus and the next one along is a little bit soft. Only the two on the left are fully in focus. Plus the size I upload is just too big for the Gallery to show it without resampling it so you need to click on the image itself to see the full size version which will be a bit sharper.

| | | Re: WAB at Clumber 2009 - The Final Reckoning! As Dave stated I generally use a much smaller aperture. F22 and F29 for the likes of myxo’s.
If you remember what I said in my fungi photography guide about there being two types of image... Arty and Technical although hopefully the technical ones will be arty too!
For my book (Yes, still on a very slow back burner) there is an emphasis on including certain foreground / background information to aid habitat recognition and comparative size. Very similar to the pictures you find in FoS, whose format in my own opinion is excellent.
Although in this example there is little in the way of ‘usable’ foreground / background information I have filled the frame to maximize detail.
The image was cropped to 880x660 ish, sharpened slightly and a distracting artifact removed.
I did it my way and others do it their way!
Anyway back to the thread you naughty lad, this is not in ‘photo critique’
What shall we do in 2010? Another location perhaps OR are you thirsty for more ... well more than this year anyway

John | Ignore Mal's unnecessary sarcasm, John - oh you already have!
as you might guess I would suggest at least one day at Clumber, and a day at Anston Stones . . . fascinating contrasts - old parkland on relatively level ground contasted with gorge woodland and calcareous grassland - Triassic sandstones contrasted with Permian Magnesian Limestone . . .
just a thought

| | | Re: WAB at Clumber 2009 - The Final Reckoning! As long as we go somewhere I'll fit in with everyone else. I think we should book basecamp again whatever.
Some more photos (nearly finished, honest!). These were still at the fallen beech...
Jelly Rot
Hoof Fungus
Honey Fungus
Then these two were whilst wandering on my own before meeting up with everyone again at South Lodge...
Hare's Foot Inkcap. I got all excited about this one thinking it just might be a magpie inkcap on it's last legs but John assured me it's Coprinus lagopus.
Birch Polypore
Just a few more tomorrow and that's me done - promise!
