| | | Re: WAB at Clumber 2009 - The Final Reckoning! ...... better late than never ...... here begins my contribution ..........
Velvet Rollrim - the big furry paxillus
Velvet Shank the indicator that winter is around the corner ........
One of sev grass green russulas tho this was heterophylla
Shaggy Pholiota being photgenic yet again
Orange Peel being confusingly like elf cup!
........ a big BIG thankyou to Fungi John and Vicky for variously organising, leading, brewing up and finding fungi - in conditions that were less than good - thanks goes to everyone else for being there pitching in and being good company: the chat and the microscope work was fascinating
I could behave like I was at the 'oscars' and give a long list of thanks and plaudits for all sorts of things - but you know who you are and what you did - so I shall just say again thanks for a wonderful weekend .......
...... there were some very funny moments that will have me giggling for months - if not years - and I'm not going to embarrass anyone by re-telling them here - again you know who and what - but to poke a bit my way - when's that photo of me asleep sat up going to appear ...... John?
I'd say roll on 2010 but I'm worried at the speed 2009 has come and gone for me as far as hols, outings and meets - Clumber was the last on my calendar to look forward to .......... so I guess the next merry Clumber will be along soon ...........
Pauline

| | | Re: WAB at Clumber 2009 - The Final Reckoning! My next lot - these take us up to Saturday lunchtime:
Lemon Disco
Coral Spot
Angel's Bonnet
Chicken of the Woods
A Waxcap - Hygrocybe marchii. I've been trying to find an "approved" common name for this one but it's not on the BMS list. I found a site that says marchii is a synonym for reidii which the BMS has as Honey Waxcap, but that looks more orange, almost yellowish, compared to our one.
Dave P.
P.s. the rather lovely caterpillar that FungiJus found...
has been identified (thanks to Charlieb) as a Coxcomb prominent.

Where did the name for this one come from? It looks to me to be one with a dry, scurfy cap, which would rule out Hygrocybe marchii. Where was it found? |

| | | Re: WAB at Clumber 2009 - The Final Reckoning! I'm not very familiar with Clumber Park but it was in a mossy area close to the lakeside and, using the map that John sent beforehand, I would say it was in the Lady Garden area.
There was quite a lot of microscope work done on it on Saturday night which I think is where the marchii came from.

| | | Re: WAB at Clumber 2009 - The Final Reckoning! I find those orange-red Hygrocybe little *****s to id . The effect of weather on them is one of the problems. And microscopically there seems little to tell some of them apart. Boertmann left H marchii open as he'd not come to a conclusion on it, not seen enough material, when he wrote his old book. Maybe that is what is delaying his new book, he's still looking for H marchii .
I have a whole stack of photos and micro photos of them and still can't reach a decision on many .... I hope one day that I'll be able to distinguish them as a result of lots and lots of looking ... that I'll recognise the elusive jizz. It is not through lack of trying ....
