| | | Emergent bracket fungus Any clues as to what I can expect this development to reveal eventually would be most appreciated. Hoping to be able to monitor over the coming months. The red guttation caught my eye.

| | | Re: Emergent bracket fungus Apart from two things it looks like Dryadeus, the colour form and guttation gives me that idea.
however it may well turn out to be inonotus radiatus, I suspect this because of the number of brackets and that the substrate appears to be birch, though possibly mountain ash (Sorbus)
If its Dryadeus, and on birch it would make for an interesting record, if radiatus its going to be a fine example.
but I could be wrong on both counts, though I am pretty confidant its going to be the radiatus
I have decided it has the wrong colour guttation for radiatus, Cuticularis is more likely. I love going back to emergents over a period of days to see what they become!

| | | Re: Emergent bracket fungus I would agree with Inonotus, and they very well could be radiatus, but radiatus when growing on Alnus, it's usual host, would normally be stacked - one above the other.
This will be very interesting as there are not that many records of any Inonotus spp. on Betula.

| | | Re: Emergent bracket fungus Found exactly the same thing growing on Betula last week and have held back judgement as I will be returning there in a few weeks. Ionotus for certain but at the stage it was in I really couldn't make a commitment. What I have read makes me agree with Neil that any Ionotus on Betula is a good find. I am awaiting the rains to encourage some quick growth.

| | | Re: Emergent bracket fungus Returning today to find these brackets fully matured I am almost convinced that it is Inonotus radiatus - Alder Bracket growing on Betula. |

| | | Re: Emergent bracket fungus I was pleased to hear from Dave that his collection on Betula was verified as Inonotus radiatus so in all probability a couple of good records for CATE. |

| | | Re: Emergent bracket fungus Great pictures - exactly like the ones at this end. I reckon this could be a common theme radiatus on Betula. It will be interesting to see how many more of these get discovered. Yes two good records for CATE too which is a very impressive resource.

| | | Re: Emergent bracket fungus One on my hitlist of highly desired photos, nice one cyber and thanks for posting this one. The last couple of years have been truly amazing for the principle decay fungi, I do hope I come across this, one day in the not to distant future.
