| | | ID of French Fungi So a few years ago I was on holiday in France, Millau area first week of November and spotted a few but would appreciate any ID's please
This first one is nicely mature
and I think a mature version of these.
They were on the outskirts of Castelnau Peygarols Château de Castelnau Peygarols
And whilst driving around Lacavalerie and Nant area we found loads. Apologies for the plastic bag, but we then had them checked locally (the local chemist shops will do this for you) to provide a good fry up
We had them with duck breast, chestnuts and cabbage with local cider.

| | | Re: ID of French Fungi Looks like you ended up with some Tricholoma terreum in your plastic bag, and possibly Lactarius deliciosus too. As for the larger 'mature' ones, I won't venture an opinion, other than to say they look a little past their best!
Cheers,
J.

| | | Re: ID of French Fungi Thanks for your reply. I admit it is only since then I have started to gain more knowledge, and am more selective in picking, and check and recheck with the 4 books (Phillips, Jordan, a DK and a Collins) I now have, along with this resource and others, so it's take photos and one specimen. Although the "chemist checked" ones were very tasty! I am now around double figures of types that I would confidently pick for eating. (just bottled/pickled some nice young Shaggy Ink Caps and dried some nice Ceps, just thrown out some St Georges that had gone off - I guess I didn't dry them properly )
Good luck in your own hunt

I'm pleased to read you are more selective in your picking now, as seeing that photo of a plastic bag full of all types of unidentified fungi in all stages of growth honestly horrified me, not so much because of your welfare, but because of the sheer scale of destruction to something of (to me) beauty.

Neil. | I does look rather like the "Hoover" aproach to foraying
