Hi Everyone,
When I mentioned before that I was going to Hardcastle Crags on a foray a few of you asked me to let you know how we got on. I don't have the full list as the foray leader took a lot of specimens away for id but we found loads despite the lack of rain.
The walk was led by Drew (the NT warden) and Anne (Secretary of Mid Yorkshire Mycological Society) and I would thoroughly recommend it.
Apologies for use of common names but I am still new to this and getting used to the latin names!!!
I don't have any photos as I left my camera at home (yes I know I'm stupid!!!) but among others we found:
Loads of Deceivers and Amethyst Deceivers
Brown Roll Rims
Common Earthballs
Parrot Waxcap (in meadows at the top of the crags)
Loads of Ochre Brittlegills
Blackening Brittlegills
Charcoal Burner
Polypores
Tawny Grisette
Grey Grisette
Stinkhorn "egg"
and to top it all off... boletus edulis! Two specimens that were about 10 inches across (but well past eating) and one perfect specimen about 6 inches across that I'm sure met with a good slug of olive oil last night!!!
They are running another foray next weekend so if you just google Hardcastle Crags Fungus Foray you should find details but I know many of you will be at Clumber next week. It is £4.50 each and you must book as people who just turned up were turned away yesterday.
I would definitely recommend a stroll around there whether on the foray or by yourself.
Rich
