Humble apologies for the poor quality of pic 1
Although the 'blobs' look brown-ish, they were actually more black in colour. Irregular shapes and firm to the touch!

1 looks like Xylaria polymorpha or Dead mans fingers  I have found a lot lately growing on stumps and fallen branches, If you find a group again try cutting one down the middle it should be bright white inside.
No credible input for 2 sorry so i'll leave that for the Wabbers who know.

| | | Re: Black 'blobby' for ID please:-) No.2 might be newly emerging Turkeytail - Trametes versicolor, certainly a bracket of some sort. But there's not enough detail for me to be fully confident.
