there isn't quite the detail in your shots for me to be able name this Lactarius - there are several whitish ones this size
in answer to your general question: no, there are a couple of edible Lactarius species which occur in Britain, and one of them, L. deliciosus, is as its name implies a sought after fungus; but most are not edible and some have very 'hot' milk . . .
but, as you will see if you look up some pictures, deliciosus is a very different-looking fungus
