Paxillus
I found these in a marshy area today with alnus. Nice troop - easy Paxillus rubicundulus



Just to confirm look at the spores. Wrong Paxillus involutus
I am going back to try again just to be absolutely sure.

I guess the spores you have found must be too big for P rubicundulus then .... Too small can sometimes be explained away but too big isn't so easy . Good thing you thought to check the spores. Funga Nordica keys straight to P rubicundus based on it being with Alder, but if the spores ain't right ....
