| | | Weekend pictures Hi all
Here are a few from the weekend. Early on Saturday I ventured out to a spot where I know Boletus edulis have appeared but struck out only to find many (and I mean many, don't think I have ever seen so many) Amania muscaria.
Then on Sunday, I found my first ever Cep, now I know why they are called Penny Buns (although I prefer the French name for some strange reason). I'm not 100% on this so I put it in the unidentified folder.
Things went down hill from then, I could only find this attactive cluster of tiny bracket fungi to photograph,
but then it went from sublime to ridiculous when I found this cluster of enormous brackets.
You could shelter from the rain under one of those.
This fellow was out in the open by himself, tentatively Amanita rubescens
and this was a rather well presented Phallus impudicus
But finally, a Boletus edulis I could have for lunch, a first for me!
Great weekend for fungi, wonder what it will be like when we get a few days of rain.
Cheers all

| | | Re: Weekend pictures No one is ticking you off because we all assume you have now read previous threads on identifying Ganoderma's and all the PITFALLS to be aware of, and with this new knowledge have gone out to the tree and removed part of a bracket to examine it's layer construction, or better still, have taken some spores back with you to measure under the microscope.
You do use a microscope don't you ? |

| | | Re: Weekend pictures Hamadryad,
On another thread, you mentioned studying Ganoderma's in the field for 22 years (or words to that effect) I'm not even sure if the 2 species (australe and applanatum) have been separated that long even, but how do you know that in all this time, you have not got these 2 species mixed up ?
I have been urging you to look at old threads on Ganoderma, because Flaxton (Mal) who has much, much more experience than you, thought that he had just about mastered the technique of identifying Ganoderma's in the field when one day he decided to check the spores and was surprised it was 'the other one' which really surprised him. This could easily have happened to me or any one of us, so it just goes to show that to be 100% certain, you MUST CHECK THE SPORES.
On the same thread you said ".....as long as I am learning, I fear not to tread". Do you really want to learn ? Then pay more attention. 0/10.

Then pay more attention. 0/10. | Oh i do want to learn, and you may well be right, but I am confidant I am correct and hoped the owner of the image may do as you say go and inspect the spores. So teach me something, this Australe, just how big does it get? I also thought that Australe, from images I have seen of it has a deeper rounded frame and is not attached at the back quite so broadly as Applanatum? a more rounded to the back or point of attachment?
I have some time today and will take your advice and view some old threads on Ganadermas. i apologise if this all seems like a repetition to everyone of older material, I know how annoying that can be.
Ive got my price from brunel for two scopes and camera attachments, 1500 quid and in May these will be mine, I cant wait to get up to speed and start learning proper.
