| | | Unidentified fungus This message was inadvertently posted in the wrong forum originally. The fungus in question was seen at a camp site in Cumbria. It was not moved by me so I have no idea what was on the underside or whether it was in fact the right way up. |

Welcome to WAB. There are one or two Boletes that your find could be unfortunately your photo does not show the necessary detail. I could be B luridisformis but to be sure we would need to know the colour of the cap whether the surface of the stalk was covered in a red network or red flocci and if the flesh changed colour on cutting.

| | | Re: Unidentified fungus As mentioned the fungus was not moved so I cannot coment on the other side's detail. The coloured stem? was filamentous at the purple end but relatively smooth elsewhere. The cap/underside was smooth and to myself as a complete novice looked more like the top side of a fungus than the underneath - which is what prompted me to photograph it as unusual.
