| | Sulphur Tuft with Pores? It wasn't until I collected a clump of these small fungi that I was surprised to find they had pores and not gills. Found growing on the the ground amongst birch and alder in a boggy area on a lake shore. The largest of this cespitose group is 4cm (others in the vicinity were slightly larger) and the pores are a dingy yellow/greyish-ochre. Flesh very pale yellow and not staining, decurrent tubes very short. The only mention of tufting is in Phillips with reference to Gyrondon Lividus which he also describes as a rare Red Data List species. A lot fits except most comparative images show distinctly brighter yellow pores.
Does anyone know which other boletes grow in this fashion?
Thanks in anticipation

no pines around? B. bovinus often grows in clusters.

Regards, Martin | Not in that particular part of the woods Martin, but if all else fails Suillus bovinus would certainly fit the bill.

It looks very much like bovinus. Ammonia on the flesh should turn it pink.
