| | | Hericium ???? and a load of Ceps Had a great day in the New Forest on Monday. Due to the lack I was surprised to find many examples of Boletus edulis (the Cep). The one was interesting:
It was fruiting right in the middle of a mole-hill. I would have thought that the mole would have damaged the mycelium and wiggling the fungus showed that the mycelium was free in the soil - as if it had grown after the mole had been there - odd.
I also found this beautiful Hericium, possibly Hericium erinaceus: |

| | | Re: Hericium ???? and a load of Ceps Pete, thanks for drawing my attention to the Hericium sp. i found a dull lemon yellow blob with tiny lumps on the surface a couple of weeks back growing on an old cut butt, (not sure of the species of tree sorry) i wondered if this looks in the right area?

| | | Re: Hericium ???? and a load of Ceps Beautiful as this fungus is, it's worth mentioning this is a very rare, Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) species and the county fungus recorder needs to be informed just in case this is a new location.
