ID help please
I'm thinking this may be Pholiota gummosa. It was growing in grass, but in a place where I'm pretty sure there is a lot of buried wood. About two inches tall.

looks like it - seems to have the rusty-coloured stem-base, veil remnants etc

was it slimy?

No - it wasn't slimy, but it was rather dried out. There is a small piece of grass sticking to the cap surface which made me think it might have been sticky a day or so ago.
