| | | Re: East Sussex IDs please Hello again,
Not easy these apart from last one. 1,2 and 4 would appear to be the same although I'm not sure about No. 2.
I think they are probably of the Clitocybe genus and without any real conviction I would suggest Geotropa
No. 3 No idea. Try and get a close up of underside for a good chance of ID.
No. 5 Once again without conviction I think it's probably of the Collybia genus. Kuehneriana is the closest in my book.
Nos. 6 and 7 are the easiest: Common puffballs ( Lycoperdon piriforme). I'm no latin scholar but apparently Lycoperdon translates as "Wolf's fart". Amusing no?
All a bit vague but I hope it will put you on the right track.
Where did you see them?

| | | Re: East Sussex IDs please Yes, you're right about the last two. The others are all individual sightings and are all different. Not sure that I can find them again.
Found all of these plus many others that I was able to identify near Uckfield, East Sussex. Even found some Earth Stars (took 'photos but were rejected when I tried to upload them; will try again today). |

2 Could be a Mycena Pura or maybe a Laccaria Lacatta?
Just having a stab

| | | Re: East Sussex IDs please Hi,
1 & 2 I'm not sure.Can't really see.
3 - I think is Gymnopilus penetrans.
4 ( and possibly 1)- I think is a Milkcap possibly Lactarius tabidus due to it's colour and the little pimple in the middle.
5 looks like Red Leg Tough Shank , Collybia erythropus. The pale cap and dark red stem
are supposed to be distinctive.
6 & 7 just don't look right for common Puffball. With them being clumped together and the
small size I'm sure they are Stump Puffball Lycoperdon pyriforme. They can look as if
they are growing on the ground if there is burried wood.
Hope this helps. Neil |

1 and 2 I concede are the same but not mycena pura or laccaria lacatta
3 still no idea but will take another 'photo showing the underside (however, Gymnopilus penetrans could be a "go-er"
4 Agree some sort of Lactarius (thought this after posting them on the website as I cut into one that I collected and it exuded a yellow liquid)
5 Collybia erythropus is, I think, a good call but if so, my books say that it is quite rare ?
6/7 agree with everyone that they are Lycoperdon pyriforme (Stump Puffball). Go easy on Chris (Lyon) as he called them common puffballs (Lycoperdon perlatum).
In another thread that I instigated, I mentioned that I had found loads of Horns of Plenty and they tasted delicious. What I didn't mention was that I nearly completely missed them. I had stopped walking as I had found a hornets nest and I knelt down on the ground below and the floor nearby was covered in Horns of Plenty and then further down a large bank. So...don't run when you see hornets ! I'll try and post a 'photo of the Horns of Plenty. |
