| | | 2 for ID Help Please Not much clue on these.
No.1
Cap sizes up to about 120mm, stipe heights up to about same.
The first photo has slight greenish cast, which is affecting the fungi colours.
Photos 2 & 3 are more lifelike.
Possibly Tricholomas?
No.2
No idea at all on these. - Found below Fagus.
Caps about 50mm across. Note bulbous nature of stipe towards base.

Mike. |

| | | Re: 2 for ID Help Please I think you have a Cortinarius for your second one. With the rusty gills and the bulbous base, I can see little else it could be |

| | | Re: 2 for ID Help Please Hello,
the first one should be Tricholoma ustale. There should have been Fagus nearby.
The Cortinarius from the 2nd picture is completely dried out, but even when we would know the original cap colour in wet state, I couldn't tell you a name. In my opinion it belongs in the vicinity of C. privignoides and related species.
best regards,
Andreas

I have previously found Tricholoma ustale, (I think. This thread refers: - Another for ID Help Please.), in the same woods, and wondered (as these ones were not slimy/viscid) if they might have been Tricholoma fulvum?
There was actually more Betula in the vicinity, but a few Fagus also
Is there something I could look for macroscopically that would allow me to differentiate between T.ustale, and T.fulvum?

| | | Re: 2 for ID Help Please The quick way is to cut one of the mushrooms down the middle. The flesh in the stem of Tricholoma fulvum is distinctively yellow, whereas in Tricholoma ustale it would be whitish (turning brown). Only helps, though, if the flesh in the stem isn't maggot ridden! |

| | | Re: 2 for ID Help Please For Tricholoma fulvum think Toffee and Banana Penny Arrow sweets if you can remember that far back. The colours are so similar to this and help achieve a familiarity with the species.

Yes, I can remember the Toffee and Banana Penny Arrow's - Never thought I'd be ever be linking them with fungi though. But you are right. From what I can recall, the colours are quite similar to T.fulvum.
(None of which will probably mean anything to anyone under their mid-forties ).
