| | | Re: honest question Hellos and welcome to WAB, as Martin says, there are many types of fungi to look for. Mind you, I have found plenty of ceps up here.

| | | Re: honest question hello mucher, it took me 6 or 7 years of mooching about before i found a cep, 4 years on from that ceps are a bonus but there's more to fungi as martin and ron have pointed out. But with regard to ceps there are loads of pages of tips on here if you are prepared to trawl thread history. Good luck and start noting the stuff you find that arn't ceps, slow down look at everything and one day you will be looking at russula turn round and bingo you will fall over a cep.

| | | Re: honest question If what you're really looking for is foraging for tasty wild mushrooms (not just ceps), you can't do better than buying River Cottage Handbook No.1: Mushrooms by John Wright. It's not a general fungus book - it's specifically about how to find and identify the best edible mushrooms (and how to avoid the nasties ).

| | | Re: honest question Last year late August and early September were excellent up here, especially for Ceps, Amanitas and Russulas. October was good too but we had a very wet Summer last year.
August has been excellent this year, September has started slowly but will pick up when we get more rain.
