I think what you are seeing here is one of the
fungi imperfecti or
mitosporic fungi in this instance what used to be called a 'coelomycete'
it's the imperfect state of an ascomycete - sticking my neck out I would suggest that it's the
Cystospora anamorphic state of
Valsa ambiens a common fungus on dead boughs, twigs etc
sometimes if the conditions are right when you get some of these fellows out of a damp collecting tin into warm indoors you can see the 'spores' oozing out at quite a rate - it's like watching a worm crawling out of the bark (and can be a bit alarming if you're watching down a dissecting microscope and it starts off!

the 'spores' - technically conidia - are tiny and in the case of
Cytospora shaped like curved sausages
the bracket is a tad too big for my mycological activities at the moment
