Throw it away if I were you mate | Not at all disputing the "throw it away, mate," as the ID is uncertain and they look rather ratty for the frying pan anyway. But just want to add that DK Pocket Nature: Fungi lists leccinum vulpinum, the foxy bolete, (which these look like they might be) as "edible and tasty." Assuming that's correct, I'd hate to see a tasty fungus maligned.

- Jim | But!...
As surely discussed earlier, there shoudn't be any online clearance for edibility...

| | | Re: Are these Edible? I hope I made it clear that I agreed the ID was uncertain and they should be binned!!
I only wished to defend the honor of leccinum vulpinum as a potentially tasty fungus if found fresh and positively ID'd by the finder.
No one should ever eat a fungus based soley on someone else looking at a photo of it and saying it is edible! That might be a small part of learning to identify a particular fungus, but further careful study and consideration is necessary so that one knows one has positively ID'd one's target before ever consuming it.
I now have slightly more than half a dozen fungi that I eat with confidence. But in each case, before ever eating one of a given species, I took many home, studied them, asked questions, threw them away, gathered more, and finally satisfied myself that I knew that mushroom!
