Leccinum Scabrum?

I went out looking for Chanterelles last night and found this kicked over whilst walking in the woods (oddly enough onder a birch tree) Having looked through my reference books i'm guessing this is a Brown Birch Bolete - Leccinum Scabrum?

Quite an impressive looking mushroom it is too, just a shame that it was knocked over

I've no idea where the Chanterelles have gone to this year, this time last year the woodland floor had a wall to wall carpet of them.

BTW, sorry about the picture but I only had the camara on my phone on me at the time.

Looks like the Leccinum Scabrum i find consistently here and probably is a little too mature to be of any culinary interest, looks like the standard of image i take too

It's a shame that they are not as good to eat as they look really.

Apart from a trip to the New Forest in August, I've not seen much in the way of any culinary mushrooms of interest at all this year. Still it's early days and the cooler mornings may kick start some intersting fungi in to life.

Now all we need is some rain...
