| | | Devil's Tooth in Guildford Surrey? I work at Merrist Wood College in Guildford Surrey, and have recently found and hopefully identified properly a devils tooth. It is the second year it has come up now in the same place, along a track in our mixed broadleaf and pine woodland. I was wondering what steps should be taken to protect it and who if anyone i should report it to?
hope someone can help
Thanks
Shaun Phillips

| | | Re: Devil's Tooth in Guildford Surrey? There is a BAP (Biodiversity Action Plan) in place for the toothed fungi as a group and Dr Jenny Duckworth of Plantlife may be able to give you further advice. Action plan for Grouped plan for tooth fungi
Cheers
David
P.S. Waiting patiently to see if Phellodon niger - Black Tooth re-appears in Minley Wood this year.

| | | Re: Devil's Tooth in Guildford Surrey? As this has not been recorded outside Scotland I would say it would need to be verified by Kew but I am sure they would be very interested.

Have you red the other threads on this subject: Hydnellum species? ID help for some Fungi please.
Also quoting from FOS it says "Identification of ( Hdynellum peckii) is no problem if one makes a taste test. The flesh of this fungus is burning sharp. For a long time this property was not recognized and thus mistakes occurred in identification"; especially with Hydnellum ferrugineum
