| | | Right time of year for Ceps in Scotland? Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has seen Ceps in Scotland recently or whether it is too late. I know from other forums that they have been out in England since early August but I can't decide whether the season should be later or earlier in Scotland. I went looking last weekend north of Glasgow in the Trossachs and found plenty of other Boletes but no Ceps. I need to know as my brother an avid fungus forager will only visit me this weekend if I can promise mushrooms! I would also appreciate advice on other areas to try near here (Perthshire?).
Thanks,
Chris |

Even if Ceps aren't so plentiful, there should still be plenty of Chanterelles about, as well as my personal favourite, Wood Hedgehogs. |

| | | Re: Right time of year for Ceps in Scotland? Thanks for replying. Aviemore is a bit far north for me but it is interesting to know there are Chanterelles and Hedgehogs about. Incidentally do you think mushrooms tend to appear earlier or later the further north you go? |

It made a lot of sense as spring is generally later in the north and autumn earlier, so I would suppose fungi and plants to behave the same way, but maybe one of the fungi experts could clarify. |

Thanks all

| | | Re: Right time of year for Ceps in Scotland? Thanks very much for all the responses. So mushrooms probably do mature earlier up here and to find Ceps my brother is better off staying in England. I am annoyed I missed them myself here in Glasgow but after thirty days of almost continuous rain the weather has only just cleared up! I tend not go out when it is raining. Ron I live to the North-East of Glasgow near Kirkintilloch. It is useful to know that next year I might find Ceps nearby.
I would also be interested to know if Ceps are still about in the New Forest? |
