Despite 10 days of no rain, with the ground getting nearly bone dry, the warmer weather of the last two days has brought out a new flush of ceps here in upper Weardale. So once again, I think it's probably not too late for ceps across the border in Scotland, either.
And along with the ceps, I'm seeing a new (though much smaller) flush of a. muscaria and a. rubescens. Strangely, although it seems to be the summer of amanitas, a. e. spissa, which were innumerable last year, have so far barely made a showing at all.

Orange Birch Boletes have been really abundant locally this year. Some of them end up the size of dinner plates. I can't recall seeing so many of them in previous years. |

| | | Re: Right time of year for Ceps in Scotland? While out in Hawley Wood, Hampshire yesterday I met an Italian gentleman with a full basket load of Ceps though I have only had scant success so far this year. Needless to say, though forthcoming regarding recipes, he was keeping well and truly 'momma' regarding site locations. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
