Hi again all
Apologies for the very poor image quality but I only had my mobile phone camera to use on this occasion. By the looks of the pictures, I badly need to familiarise myself with its minimum focal distance!
Anyroadup, could these two specimens be
Amanita strobiliformis by any chance. I didn't want to disturb them just to get the ID as I think these are uncommon, and there was a small chance they were the very rare Solitary Amanita. So I don't have much description to add to the photos, cap size of the one in the first picture is a rather rectagular 20x10 cm (or possibly a bit larger) - very faint or no smell at all. Underneath a beech tree on very chalky soil which gets alot of sun. The one in the second picture looked like it was going to progress and develop like the one in the first picture, but something got to it and it seems to be dissolving into gloop (lower right of stem) rather quickly.
Long shot I know, but as ever, many thanks in advance
Cheers
Bill
