| | | Unidentified fungi and algae? I'm in the same boat as Mike with these, not quite sure what they are let alone able to identify them!
Q1. On woodpile - fungus?
Q2. On old log - algae?
Q3. On small rotting branch, looks like black velvet
Q4. On the end of a stick
Q5. On fallen wood - fungus?
Q6. On gorse - fungus?
Thanks in advance for help and comments.

Q2 is probably the ozonium of a coprinus.
Q4 is something for Andreas...
Q6 looks like Tremella mesenterica, Yellow brain fungus.

I agree with all the above - I thought Datronia even before seeing Clint's post; Beamish is being delightfully elliptic - it is indeed a Mollisia, but as the man himself would point out the microscope has to come into play (though if this was the very common M. cinerea, I wouldn't be surprised)
sticking my neck out a bit (and I would love to see the spores under the 'scope which would solve it instantly) I think 3 could well be Chaetosphaerella phaeostroma - see this thread: more black balls
cheers
Chris

Mal | Well, I'm not going to argue with that because there's precious little left to quibble over (except, being facetious, I'd spell it M. speirea.) |

| | | Re: Unidentified fungi and algae? Thank you all very much for identifying these.
Chris if you want pm me your address as the probable Chaetosphaerella phaeostroma and Mollisia cinerea are sat on the woodpile outside my back door and I can send you specimens - there are some Scutellinia there too ...
